CICT-ICFT and PCI Commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the UNESCO 2005 Convention at Expo 2025 Osaka​

Art & Tech for a Sustainable Future (ATSF) Program

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, the International Council for Film, Television and Audiovisual Communication (CICT-ICFT) and the Platform for Creativity & Innovation (PCI) will host a dedicated event at Expo 2025 Osaka on 28 August 2025.  

 

This significant gathering will convene representatives from National Pavilions of Expo 2025 Osaka, international experts, cultural practitioners, creative entrepreneurs, artists, youth delegates, and Expo visitors to:  

  • Reflect on the Convention's enduring impact over two decades  

  • Explore innovative intersections between art, technology and sustainability  

  • Present the vision and framework of the ATSF Program  

  • Showcase the collaborative work of CICT-ICFT and PCI

The program will feature formal addresses by representatives from participating National Pavilions, highlighting their respective approaches to promoting cultural diversity and developing creative industries. The representatives will include Ms. Viviana Hernandez, Protocol coordinator of the Colombia Pavilion, ProColombia; Ms. Phuong Do, Pavilion Director of the Viet Nam Pavilion; Ms. Jeannie Siong, Pavilion Senior Manager of the Singapore Pavilion; Mr. Ababacar Fall, Pavilion Deputy Director of the Senegal Pavilion, Male; Mr. Bougandoura Abdellahi, Commissioner General of the Algeria Pavilion; Xiaochen Ma, Director of the China National 1 Pavilion; Mr. Saleh Al Tamimi Altamimi, Deputy Pavilion Director of the Saudi Arabia Pavilion; Mr. Maire Jacques, Commissioner General of the France Pavilion; and Ms. Oanh Nguyen, Protocol Liaison Officer of the Viet Nam Pavilion. 

 

The event will continue with thought leadership presentations from digital art pioneers, AI specialists and cultural policy experts examining how technological and artistic innovation can jointly contribute to building more sustainable and resilient societies. In particular, the specialists for thematic talks "Art & Tech" will be Mr. Giacomo Mazzone (Italy), expert of the UNESCO 2005 Convention and AI ethics, Ms. Milène Guermont (France), artist-engineer, Knight of the National Order of Merit, and 100 Women of Culture 2024 in France, and Mr. Jesse Z. (China), Oscar-shortlisted and Emmy-nominated filmmaker, AI artist.

 

Creative showcases by practitioners working across diverse fields, including AI applications, digital arts, intangible cultural heritage preservation, and educational innovation, along with Art performances by both emerging and established artists from China and Italy will foster cross-cultural dialogue, highlight innovative practices, and create new opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange.

 

We are profoundly honored that Mr. Ernesto Ottone R., UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, has graciously contributed a special video message commemorating this important anniversary.  

The ATSF Program, while firmly rooted in contemporary life and driven by innovation, maintains a strong focus on advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals while envisioning future-oriented lifestyles. The program's objectives align directly with UNESCO's mission to safeguard cultural diversity while embracing the transformative potential of digital technologies. This event will demonstrate concrete examples of how artistic expression and technological advancement can work in concert to foster more inclusive and sustainable communities worldwide.  

 

At its core, this celebration affirms that culture remains the essential foundation of sustainability, while technology serves as its powerful enabler. The event stands as both a commemoration of two decades of cultural protection and a call to action - inviting all participants to collaborate in shaping a future where creativity generates tangible, positive impact across global societies.
